Crackdown 3 is a blast to play solo, and it’s even greater when playing with a friend. Since the original released back in 2007, every entry has included co-op play, and Crackdown 3 is no different. For those looking to play with a friend, setting up a co-op game is simple – just be careful not to delete your world save!
Crackdown has largely been a franchise that is playable by yourself but is a lot more fun if you play with friends. Crackdown 2 upped the ante by allowing 4-player co-op that in hindsight might have been a bit much.
In Crackdown 3 we see the co-op scaled back to allowing just two players but it’s still just as fun. Did we mention Crackdown 3’s campaign is fully playable co-op?
Starting Online Co-op Multiplayer
To play the game’s campaign online with a friend, one player will have to host the game and invite the other. The hosting player will have to select “Co-op Campaign” from the main menu.
From there, the hosting player will have to choose his or her agent. It can be one which already has progress from a previous campaign, or a new agent that is a complete blank slate.
It’s a strange setup, but one that requires special attention, as it can be easy to simply mash the A button, thinking you’re confirming. To reiterate: make sure you are not overwriting your own save when joining a friend for co-op.
Once you do that you’ll be able to invite a friend from your Xbox friend’s list to play with. The player will accept your invite and from there you’ll be able to get into a game together.
For multiplayer, things get a little more difficult, and by difficult, we mean impossible.
Unfortunately, Crackdown 3 does not support local multiplayer or any type of split-screen mode. The series has never supported local multiplayer, always favoring a seamless drop-in/drop-out support of online cooperative multiplayer. So if you’re hoping to enjoy local co-op, you’re out of luck.
